About Crowned Cakes
Crowned Cakes started in the 1980’s at my NaNa Pearl’s and Grandmother Alberta May’s kitchens. I can’t forget my Mother’s too. As a young girl, I would stand by and watch them bake. Each had their own specialty. NaNa Pearl loved to prepare coconut cakes every week. Mom Mom May loved to make apple pie. My mother would have my brother and I assist her in the process of making chocolate chip cookies. The images of all this love had an everlasting impression that I never lost and will always remain in my heart. That is what inspired me today, to create something and leave a legacy for my family.
I began baking cookies for Christmas. It started out with chocolate chip cookies. Then I included a second choice with walnuts. Soon came the oatmeal cookies and the irresistible butter almond cookies. I decided to broaden my horizons and started making apple pies. My friend Amy re-introduced me to them.
After conquering these feats/treats, I knew I could bake anything.
My favorites of my loving creations are the chocolate cake that Miss Margaret would bring to work, the coconut cake my NaNa prepared, and the banana nut bread I dreaded eating when my mother prepared it. I have to say that I LOVE fresh banana nut bread nowadays.
